The Immigration Department has denied it was tipped off in advance about the outcome of the landmark abode case.

A statement had been issued by the department on Thursday stating that there would be no amnesty for migrants and that applications for certificates of entitlement would not be accepted if made in Hong Kong.

These were issues ruled on by the Court of Final Appeal in yesterday's decision, in favour of the Government.

A spokesman for the department said: 'The press statement was issued to remind the public of the existing situation of the certificate of entitlement applications.'
