The code is to be prepared by the Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd).
The Equal Opportunities Commission recently autho rised the HKIEd to prepare a code of practice covering rights and responsibilities in relation to education for the disabled.
The code will cover the implications of the Disability Discrimination Ordinance and recommendations for good practice.
Issues such as the curriculum, school discipline, assessment and evaluation will be included.
Dr Philip Hui Kwok-fai, who is a member of the team working on the 'Preparation of a Code of Practice on Education under the Disability Discrimination Ordinance' project, said: 'We hope the release of the code will raise the public's awareness and enhance their understanding of disability discrimination in schools and help promote the integration of pupils with special educational needs into normal schools.' The code of practice will first be submitted to the Equal Opportunities Commission for consideration.
