As a leading provider of job-related training, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) aims to provide students with the skills and techniques to equip them to join the workforce.
Newly established by the Vocational Training Council (VTC) earlier this year, the IVE comprises two former VTC technical colleges and seven technical institutes.
In this year's Policy Address, the Government announced a $176 million package to improve VTC's information technology facilities and build a new wing at the Sha Tin campus to meet future demand.
This academic year, the IVE has 18,100 students studying full-time courses at Form Five level and above.
In the 2000/2001 school year, the IVE will offer 10,600 places for Form Five school-leavers, 800 more than this year.
The institute offers about 40 courses in nine disciplines: applied science; business administration; child care; computing and mathematics; construction; design, printing, textiles and clothing; electrical and electronic engineering; hotel, service and tourism studies; mechanical, manufacturing and industrial engineering.
