Big-hearted Morgan Stanley Dean Witter employees and generous members of the public bumped up the Operation Santa Claus total to $933,340 last night. Morgan Stanley donated $213,000 while cheques totalling $6,400 were received from the public. Special thanks go to Matthias Schwartz, Chan Pui-man and Pure Fair Ltd for their generous donations. Radio 3 will hold Santathon '99 tomorrow for six hours live at Chater Garden when Mabuhay host Vilma Gardiner will take part. A host of items will be auctioned, including hotel packages, air tickets and a chance to make a CD recording. There will also be live music from Gaelic Gall, mainstream jazz from Kenny's Flying Machine and rhythm and blues from Frontline. At 8pm at California in Lan Kwai Fong, Radio 3 disc jockey Teng Boon will be playing vinyl with a Latin edge. California will donate 50 per cent of the price of Bacardi and Diamond Sapphire drinks to Operation Santa Claus. A special fund-raising five-a-side soccer match will be staged at Stanley Fort tomorrow. The match kicks off at 11am. The Hippo Bar and Restaurant Fund-raising Day at Silvermine Bay on Lantau Island is aiming to attract both locals and hikers today and tomorrow.
