In a three-year period, CLP Power has made substantial gains in sales as a result of improved productivity.
Dominic Tai, acting general manager of marketing and customer services, said: 'In terms of productivity, our sales per employee have increased by 59 per cent over the period '95 to '98 - that's a great achievement compared with other companies in this industry.' 'But we should look at the progress made by the whole company - staff and management,' he said.
For its achievements, CLP Power has been rewarded with the Hong Kong Award for Services Productivity Award.
The category is organised by Hong Kong Productivity Council.
This was the first time that CLP entered the awards, reflecting confidence of management and staff, he said.
'In the last few years we've done quite a bit in terms of improving customer services and increasing our productivity. We saw the competition as a good opportunity for us to reflect on what we had done and to see what sort of results we are getting - basically to pull the whole thing together,' he said.
He attributes the company's success to several factors, including leadership, human resource systems, customer focus and improved lines of communication both internally and with the public. Most significant though, was teamwork.
