SEVEN graduates of the Hongkong Academy for Performing Arts (APA) and six other talented dancers from overseas are to joint the Hongkong Ballet.
Wang Yong and Zhao Ming will be a principal dancer and a soloist respectively. Both trained in China before receiving scholarships to study at the APA, Mr Wang at the Shanghai Ballet School and Mr Zhao at the Beijing Dance Academy.
Apart from dancing in China, Mr Wang has also appeared with Le Jeune Ballet de France, while Mr Zhao has extensive touring experience in America, Canada and other Asian countries.
Five other APA graduates are joining the company as coryphees and corps de ballet: Connie Mok, Nancy Wong, Chan Wei-ming, Roy Chan and Jonathan Lin.
They are joined by six dancers from overseas: Frankie Lai who previously danced in France, Carolyn Cho from New Zealand, Christian Ilioiu from Romania, Chan Kin-sun from Canada, Sylvie San Giorgio from France and Molly Smolen from the US.
Roy Chan, a former dancer with the Hongkong Ballet, is returning to the company from the Singapore Dance Theatre. Jonathan Lin trained in Taipei and danced with the Cloud Gate Dance Company before he was awarded a scholarship to study at the APA.
