Superspy James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) returns in The World is Not Enough to protect the daughter of an assassinated oil tycoon. The rich girl, Elektra King (Sophie Marceau), inherits billions of dollars worth of oil fields in the Caspian Sea, drawing the attention of her father's killer, crazed psychopath Renard (Robert Carlyle). Bond soon discovers that Elektra plans to take over the world by controlling the oil supply.

Sophie Marceau also stars in the Gothic romance Firelight . In 1837 London, Swiss governess Elizabeth Laurier (Marceau) accepts a proposition from an English aristocrat (Stephen Dillane) to have his baby in order to release her father from debt.

Elizabeth gives birth to a baby girl, which is taken from her.

Seven years pass and Elizabeth travels to the south of England to take up the post of governess to a notoriously difficult seven-year-old child.

Elizabeth's employer is horrified to recognise her as the woman with whom he spent three nights together nearly eight years ago.
