China's US ambassador said yesterday his country's entry into the World Trade Organisation would benefit both nations. Li Zhaoxing said opponents of the move 'don't know what they're talking about'.

He denied China was a threat to the United States and ridiculed allegations of Chinese nuclear espionage.
He said 'very useful discussions' had come from the WTO meeting in Seattle, 'despite the tear-gas'.
But a top Senate advocate of closer ties with China, Senator Max Baucus, suggested the unproductive Seattle meeting was souring support in Congress for giving China permanent Normal Trade Status.
