A property agent is suing a bank, claiming an administrative bungle cost her $35,000. Ngai Yuk-lin told the Small Claims Tribunal yesterday that the sum was credited to her account by Citibank after a client put a deposit envelope into an automatic teller machine (ATM) to secure a flat. But the bank later deducted the money, saying the envelope was empty. Ms Ngai, an employee of the Kowloon Property Agency Company, said she used her personal Citibank Visa Card account to receive the deposit when handling the property deal on December 21 last year. She used the credited money to pay $28,000 to the landlord as the client's rental deposit and kept $7,000 as commission. A month later she discovered $35,000 had been removed from her account. The bank will present its case when the hearing resumes before adjudicator Katina Levy Law Suet-mui on January 18.
