STUDENT UNION LEADER WELCOMES PLA PRESENCE

Joshua Chan, general assembly chairman of the Students' Union of the University of Macau, was among the tens of thousands who lined the streets of Macau on Monday to welcome the People's Liberation Army, Xinhua reported.

After watching Macau's historic transition to Chinese rule on TV, Mr Chan ar ranged to meet some friends to witness the PLA's arrival.

Despite a nearly sleepless night, he did not seem tired as he prepared to greet the troops, who many hope will help restore order to the enclave.

'At this moment, I feel all the more a part of China than at any other time,' Mr Chan said.
