Four generations of the Ng family have lived in Pui Man Chuen since Ng Leung Heung-lan, now 89, and her husband settled there in 1951.
'My mother had a stroke and can hardly speak now after learning the news that we have to move out,' said Ng Wing-yin, 60.
His wife, Pi Shung-man, 60, added: 'My mother-in-law had to take care of six children and make plastic flowers to earn enough money to build this cottage. It's her life-time investment.' Mr Ng said that his father was an office clerk who earned about $200 a month.
'My siblings and I helped out making plastic flowers with my mother after school to make a little bit extra,' he said.
Mrs Ng said: 'I really don't want to move. Not only has our whole family invested so much here, we're also emotionally attached to it.
'My sons, daughters and grandchildren, married or single, are all living here now. My kids are also attached to this place,' she said.
