US trio takes outrage to Xinhua
Three United States green-card holders and Falun Gong members who arrived in Hong Kong on Monday after being detained in Shenzhen protested outside the Xinhua office yesterday.
Dr Feng Lili, Alicia Chen Zhao and Huang Yun, who were held for 13 days at the Futian Detention Centre, practised Falun Gong outside the news agency's Happy Valley headquarters.
They put up a banner saying what Falun Gong preached should be considered a legitimate creed on the mainland.
The three were detained after meeting Falun Gong members in Shenzhen. Police accused them of disrupting social order and sent them to the detention centre.
Dr Feng, a California-based immunobiologist, believed they were released because of pressure from the US Congress and the media.
She and Ms Chen, a marketing manager from San Francisco, were kept in one cell. Mr Huang, a software engineer based in Silicon Valley, was locked up with other male inmates.
