Five-star Hyatt's only fault

IN her overall deservedly favourable review of the Grand Hyatt's Grand Cafe (''The cafe with the kitsch flavouring'' - South China Morning Post, May 20), Margaret Sheridan remarks, ''Tables are easier to come by in the smoking section, if you're in a rush.'' In other words, non-smokers must wait to be seated, even though there may be tables vacant in the smoking section. Clearly then, the number of non-smoking tables is too limited to support the demand for them.

As in most restaurants in Hongkong with segregated seating, it seems the Grand Cafe errs heavily in favour of smokers, despite the fact that nowadays they comprise only about 14 per cent of the local population. This simply does not make sense either in terms of hard business or customer relations. It would be nice if the Grand Cafe were to set a better example with its smoking policy, in keeping with its otherwise impeccable five-star image.
