British Airways in heavy push on-line British Airways is expected to announce soon a series of on-line fare promotions and an intention to separate its Internet sales division in a radical change to its structure to increase on-line sales and help stem a slide in profits. The airline is reported to be pushing to move half its business - GBP4.5 billion (about HK$56.52 billion) of annual sales - on-line by 2003. Internet ticketing, air-mile accounts and an on-line check-in will be handled by the new unit.

One giant sky-high millennium party Some 60,000 airline passengers will enter the new millennium in the sky, many without even knowing it, when the clock strikes midnight in the Greenwich borough of London on New Year's Eve. The party 8,800 metres above the ground will take place on board the estimated 450 commercial aircraft that will be in the air at 'zero zero zero zero' Zulu time - pilot speak for universal or Greenwich Mean Time. The airlines have set their clocks to universal, or GMT, for as long as they've been flying across international time zones to prevent scheduling confusion. That means those in the sky when midnight strikes in London, from airline executives in China and South Africa to businessmen flying to Melbourne, can brace for 2000 together, regardless of local time.
