Go away with the kids

Let your kids soak up the vibes of our top athletes at the sports grounds, pool and restaurants where they train during two-day family camps at the Hong Kong Sports Development Council. The $900 packages include a standard double room at the Hong Kong Sports Institute hostel in Fo Tan, Sha Tin, meals and four hours' use of the institute's soccer pitch, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and basketball and volleyball grounds. The Music Farm of the Anthropological Survival Outreach Society organises day camps, where you can try your hand at farming, dine on organic food, cook over a barbecue at sunset, and join a campfire singalong. There are also pottery, baking and art workshops, such as weaving rattan grasshoppers. Day camps are $240 for adults and $120 for children under eight. Overnight camps are also available for groups of 24 ($330 each). Bus transit from Kowloon Tong KCR station is included. Call 2476-3612.

For a more primitive experience, camp out in an eight-square-metre tree house. They can be rented for $200 (or $250 with meals) a night at the Kan Kee Farm, A2, 26 San Tong Ha Tsuen, Lam Tsuen, Tai Po.
