Laser Pride can give boom apprentice Roger K. H. Yu a welcome winner in the third event on tonight's typically trappy Happy Valley card.

Yu seems to have spent nearly as much time on the sidelines as Mike Tyson.

But he remains a prodigious riding talent and rode an unbelievably good race for a five-pound claimer when caught in the shadows of the post on Flying Flying at Sha Tin on Sunday.

That was Yu's first meeting for a couple of months and he, himself, should strip fitter rather than suffering from second-up syndrome.

Laser Pride is a pretty straightforward ride in that he is blessed with plenty of natural pace - so important at the Valley, especially when the rail is out to the C position as it is tonight.

Yu shouldn't have too much trouble going forward and getting a sit behind the likely front-runner Cool Running and also the big form danger, Grand Prize, who should have the run of the race from barrier one under Irishman Jimmy Quinn.

Cheerful is also likely to go forward from barrier three as he has done in his past couple of starts. This is easier for him and he might just hold on to a place at remunerative odds so keep an eye on him in tierce wagers. But it is Laser Pride who can sit behind them and pounce under the very useful Yu whose five-pound claim could be the telling factor.
