A baby-sitter burst into tears as she gave evidence in a child abuse case yesterday after seeing photographs depicting the injuries suffered by the child, who had previously been under her care.
The two-year-old girl was allegedly ill-treated by Chau King-sheung, 23, and his common-law wife, Tam Wai-sheung, 26, who deny one count of cruelty to a child.
The couple were asked by the girl's grandmother, surnamed Leung, to take care of the child in April last year.
The child was found with severe injuries including bruises and burns all over her body after being under the couple's care for less than three weeks, the court was told on Monday.
The child's former baby-sitter, Sun Ng Ming-chu, testified yesterday that she had taken care of the girl from February last year but had had to stop because of her own health problems.
Mrs Sun described the child as lovely and obedient but said she became quiet after being in the custody of the defendants.
