New World First Ferry, which will take over the operation of eight routes from the Hongkong & Yaumati Ferry Company (HYF) from January 15, made the pledge after yesterday's crash in Central, believed to have been caused by engine trouble.
'From captains to sailors to pier staff, we will organise the appropriate training programme for them,' general manager John Hui Chiu-yin said.
There would also be more regular checks on the condition of vessels.
The operator has bought 15 boats from HYF and has rented another 10 to ensure a smooth transition.
