IT hasn't been a great season for one-time wonderboy Jackie C. K. Tse but it certainly took a turn for the better last night when well-touted Radiant Sun (6-1) gunned down Beyond Control (8-1) right on the line in the third race.
And trainer Alex Wong Yu-on has certainly had plenty to smile about since his season fell apart with the sidelining of brilliant Deerfield.
Little had gone right for popular Alex before that but the winners have been flowing in quite freely since Deerfield was pulled out of the Derby and taken out of training until next season.
The trainer had put plenty of work into Radiant Sun and it paid off last night.
But title-hunting Basil Marcus seemed to have stolen the Class Five, 1,400-metre event when sending Beyond Control three lengths clear on straightening.
With 150 metres to go Tse was still facing a task but Radiant Sun responded gamely and Beyond Control was collared in the shadows of the post.
