IT has been a great season for Peter Ng Bik-kuen who, on 28 winners, needs only two more to double his previous best tally. He has been getting into those that need the work but taken a far more patient line with those like Gold Capture who have been very slow to come to themselves. The private purchase griffin showed potential in his work last season, displaying a fair amount of speed in his trials and then being far from disgraced in two starts. Ng has yet to really get into him this season and it will be interesting to see how he progresses after last night's belated reappearance where he finished down the field behind Radiant Sun in the third event. Although well out of the placings, he was far from knocked about and looks as if he will derive considerable benefit from the outing. His trackwork from now until the last meeting of the season will be monitored most closely. Watch this space. There was a good run from David Hill's private purchase griffin Green Maple who stayed on really strongly to claim fourth behind the exciting Explorer in the day's griffin event. Green Maple, by tenacious English Derby winner Secreto, clearly appreciated the step up in distance and the application of blinkers for the first time. He has always gone well in the mornings and was just waiting for the extra ground.
