The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Line (IRISL) has inaugurated an Asia-Middle East service.
The carrier's 23,720-deadweight-tonne vessel Iran Takhti called at the Jakarta International Container Terminal (Jict) before sailing to Mina Qaboos (Oman), Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Damman (Saudi Arabia), Bandar Abbas (Iran) and Bandar Imam Khomeni (Iran).
The 159-metre vessel, which has a 792 teu (20 ft equivalent unit) capacity, is the only such service linking Indonesia with these countries.
Jict president Simon Moore said Indonesia's premier container terminal remained focused on customers' needs, together with improvements in productivity and service already achieved.
'IRISL's service allows Indonesian exporters to ship their cargo directly to Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Iran and presents them with a great opportunity to enhance their business,' he said.
Jict has attracted nine new services in its first nine months of operation.
