In his address, Assistant Director of Education Cheng Man-yiu encouraged students to brave the changes in the new era and set priorities in handling them.

The opening ceremony was marked by ribbon-cutting by principal Lui Ki-cheung, assistant principals and guests such as Mr Cheng and principal education officer for the New Territories Ruth Lau.

The school hall held a display of the students' work, including environmental education projects, English enhancement programmes and artwork. The exhibits also revealed the school's plans - research project on school effectiveness and improvement, a project on discovering Cheung Chau, a joint schools project on media education and the computerisation of the school library. These plans now await approval for funding from the Quality Education Fund.

The open day was not merely an annual event, but an opportunity for co-operation between teachers and students. It also helped bring the school and the community closer.
