Eight men and a woman allegedly involved in violent clashes at a Sheung Shui village in November denied all charges against them in Fanling Court yesterday.
Former North District Board members Sham Wing-kan, 45, and Wong Sing-chi, 42, both Democratic Party members, were charged with obstructing police in Shek Wu San Tsuen on November 16. Fourteen people were hurt in the clashes.
Villagers Chan Tit-shing, 50, Chan Sau-nam, 34, Chan Yin-kam, 44, and Yuen Wai-man, 35, were also charged with obstructing police. Lai Ming, 26, Chan Ying, 71, and Sze Cho-wing, 44, were charged with assaulting police.
Sze and Yuen were also charged with possessing offensive weapons.
Yuen was charged with unlawfully and maliciously causing an explosion to endanger lives.
Magistrate David Duggan set bail at $500, except for Yuen, who was released on $1,000 bail. A pretrial review follows on February 23.
