CLP Holdings managing director Ross Sayers has reportedly been approached by British energy group National Power to run its soon-to-be-listed domestic integrated energy business, Npower.
If reports in the British press are correct, the move - expected soon after Mr Sayers' contract expires this September - would take him to the forefront of Britain's rapidly deregulating energy market, where competition is becoming increasingly fierce.
National Power announced last year it planned to break the company into two divisions - Npower, on the domestic side, and International Power, which will focus solely on National Power's growing interests outside Britain.
The previously government-run company said yesterday it had been in discussions with a number of senior industry figures for senior management positions at Npower and International Power, although nothing had been signed.
A spokesman said the company was hoping to give some guidance to the market in the next few weeks as to the next step in the planned demergers.
A CLP spokesman refused to comment on the reports, confirming only that the New Zealand-born Mr Sayers' contract is due to expire in September.
