Michael Wong has just finished directing his first film and is still relishing the experience.

'Sometimes, being an actor gets a bit boring. You are just told what to do. As a director you are leading the ship and need to motivate the entire cast and crew each day and keep the continuity,' says Michael, who also produced and starred in Miles Apart, which he describes as a romantic drama with some action.

The film also stars Cecilia Yip, Jimmy Wong and Moses Chan. Michael plays a police chief inspector and gets to fly a helicopter.

'I just got my helicopter licence and when I'm not working I fly every morning. I took my wife up for the first time recently and she was nervous at first but when she relaxed she really enjoyed it.' Michael says he finds flying fulfilling and relaxing after a tough day of filming.

'If you have problems, being up in the sky, everything seems so small.' For Miles Apart Michael recruited two Hollywood cinematographers to work with the local crew.

'The film has a certain quality to it as we shot it with Panavision equipment. I have never worked so fast before and was amazed.' Michael is now preparing to direct another movie as well as spending time with his newborn son. 'I have two daughters and with my wife and the maid, the house used to be full of female energy. At least now there is a little balance in the household.'
