Former Czechoslovakia head coach Dr Jozef Venglos has been handed the task of helping Hong Kong lift its soccer profile.
The 63-year-old Slovakian, who coached Celtic last year and before that Aston Villa, has been appointed FIFA's technical adviser to Hong Kong.
Venglos' appointment comes hard on the heels of a plea from Asian Football Confederation general secretary Peter Velappan to the Hong Kong Football Association, requesting the association make efforts to lift Hong Kong's soccer profile as part of the continent's drive to improve the sport in Asia.
Venglos will arrive in Hong Kong on March 1 and will stay here for one week. At the end of his visit, he will write a full report to the Hong Kong FA, making recommendations.
'He will have one week to see what needs to be done to improve Hong Kong soccer. Venglos has a wealth of experience and is the right man for the job,' said a Hong Kong FA spokesman.
Venglos was coach of the Czechoslovakia team who won the European Championship in 1976.
