After composing hits for Canto-pop stars including Jacky Cheung, Cass Phang, Leon Lai and Gigi Leung, songwriter Eric Kwok (right) has finally started performing his own songs.

Collaborating with friend Jerald Chan as a duo called Snowman, Eric has released an album that includes five of his songs. He describes the music as 'fried-rice style'.

'It's got everything in it . . . pop, R&B, jazz, dance tunes. But it's easy to digest as the underlying melody is pop.' Eric's song Lucky Ferris Wheel, written for pop singer Eason Chan, was voted favourite song of the year at last month's Commercial Radio annual awards. It was also voted best song of the year by Metro, TVB, RTHK and Commercial Radio.

Considering it only took 40 minutes to write, that's quite an achievement.

Eric started composing when he was 17 but only began making a living from it two years ago when he signed with Warner Chappell Music. He says that when a melody comes to him, he's not thinking about who will sing it.

Singers sometimes ask Eric to write songs for them but it's not something he does well.
