HONGKONG have finished their World Championships campaign with a bronze medal despite defeat in the women's doubles semi-finals in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The territory's top female players, Chai Po-wa and Chan Tan-lui, won the bronze - their third in successive World Championships - despite losing to number one seeds, Deng Yaping and Qiao Hong of China 12-21, 8-21, 14-21. There are no play-off matches for bronze.
Deng and Qiao set up an all-Chinese final as Liu Wei and Qiao Yunping defeated compatriots Gao Jun and Chen Zihe 21-9, 21-16, 21-11 in the other semi-final.
Tenth-seeded Liu and Qiao upset the top seeds Deng and Qiao 21-19, 14-21, 21-17, 23-21 in the final.
The men's doubles also produced an all-China final. Top seeds Wang Tao and Lu Lin beat 11th seeds Ma Wenge and Zhang Lei 18-21, 21-12, 21-13, 21-15.
The men's singles was won by Frenchman Jean-Philippe Gatien, who beat Belgium's Jean-Michel Saive in a gripping final.
