Raiders tied and gagged a couple when they broke into a luxury home and stole $1 million in cash and valuables early yesterday.
They forced the husband, surnamed Chiu, 45, who works in the finance sector, at knifepoint to reveal the code number of a safe. The pair escaped with jewellery, ornaments, watches and $60,000 in cash from the safe.
They broke into the four-storey house in Ching Sau Lane, Chung Hom Kok, at 4am after scaling scaffolding around the house next door, which is being renovated.
'The men, armed with knives, prised open the window grille and climbed into an unoccupied bedroom on the third floor,' said Aberdeen assistant divisional commander (crime), Chief Inspector Leung Wing-ki.
'They then went into the master bedroom on the same floor where the victim and his wife were awakened, then tied up with shoelaces, gagged with towels and covered with a blanket.
'The couple were pinned to the bed face down, then threatened with knives and ordered to reveal the password of the safe in the same bedroom,' he said.
