Different people have different ways of showing their appreciation for their idols. However, some teenagers go to extremes in supporting their favourite singer, actor or celebrity. They spend most of their time and pocket money collecting things about their idols.

Some fans worship these celebrities so much that they buy their photographs, CDs, and books and magazines which carry their pictures.

They even follow their idols in their cars, which can be very dangerous.

There are a number of reasons that make youngsters act in this way. They believe that their behaviour is an indication of their support for their idols. Some blindly worship their idols because of peer pressure. Nowadays many students regard getting the autograph of a famous star or seeing him in person as a source of pride. This can make their friends - who may want to concentrate on more important things - look inferior in the eyes of their schoolmates. Moreover, young people are becoming increasingly curious about their idols. They are not satisfied with the information in newspapers and magazines. They think they may learn more if they follow the stars.

Students should spend their time and energy in more mean ingful ways. They would get more satisfaction if they participated in voluntary work and learned how to contribute to society.

They should show more concern for the needy and co-operate with others in enhancing communal harmony.
