I AM writing in response to S. Sivanayagam's letter (South China Morning Post, May 17) which asked ''What are HK people called?'' The most interesting way I have heard Hongkong people refer to themselves is as ''Honkies'. Not to be confused with the derogatory meaning of the word in the US.
I thought it surprising that with a name like Sivanayagam the reader found the terms Hongkongers and Hongkongians ''hard on the tongue''.
