We refer to the letters from Bo-Young Kang and Christine Loh regarding air-conditioned bus services (South China Morning Post, January 4 and 31 respectively).
The introduction of air-conditioned buses is one of KMB's service enhancements in answer to passengers' demands for a more comfortable bus service. Since the introduction of an air-conditioned bus service, we have maintained close contact with the air-conditioning equipment manufacturers to make improvements wherever possible.
All our air-conditioned buses have a sophisticated control system, which is designed to maintain a comfortable saloon temperature range of 18 degrees Celsius to 22 degrees.
This range is recommended by manufacturers and is found to be most suitable for and generally more acceptable to the majority of passengers. It would be impractical for the bus captain to adjust the saloon temperature from time to time throughout the journey. In fact, we have installed dual cooling/ heating systems on our air-conditioned buses, so as to adjust for different weather conditions in summer and winter and differing passenger loads. The latest integrated control system installed on our new air-conditioned buses enables the cooling and heating systems to work automatically.
For passengers who want to make their own temperature changes inside the compartment, we think the best solution is to have adjustable nozzles. These exist in our new air-conditioned buses, enabling passengers to adjust the direction and the amount of airflow. Our customers have found this facility to be useful.
We do care about passenger satisfaction and we will continue to review our bus service to ensure we are offering a high quality service.
