Blaze heroine, 94, injured

A 94-year-old woman and two policemen were overcome by smoke, while helping firefighters rescue 20 residents from a block of flats in Mei Foo Sun Chuen after an 11th-floor unit caught fire yesterday.

Residents fled the 20-storey block when the blaze broke out in an unattended flat in the Nassau Street building at about 9am. It was put out 45 minutes later. The unit was badly damaged.

The elderly woman and two officers were taken to Princess Margaret Hospital where they were said to be in stable condition.

A ground-floor storeroom of a 15-storey building in Scenic Villas at Scenic Villa Drive, Pokfulam, caught fire yesterday afternoon.

Firemen used four jets and four teams of officers equipped with breathing apparatus to fight the blaze.

It was put out at about 3.25pm. No one was hurt.
