The Lands Department has proposed the integration of all sites under the application system into a single reserve list to speed up land sale procedures in the next financial year, according to deputy director Nigel Burley.
At present, developers may apply to buy sites from the two reserve lists - one designated for auction sale and the other for tender sale.
The lists comprise 26 unsold sites.
Mr Burley said there would probably be only one reserve list of sites offered for sale in the next financial year.
According to the new proposal, the Lands Department would decide whether a site would be put up for auction or tender after a developer made an acceptable purchase offer and paid a deposit, he said.
However, under the existing practice, the department might not have enough time to arrange a site in the reserve list for auction if an acceptable offer was received fairly close to the date of the auction, Mr Burley said.
The proposed amendment would allow the department more flexibility in the arrangement of land disposals, he said.
