I refer to the letter headlined 'Disturbed', by Yip Teem-wing (Sunday Morning Post, January 23) about the presence of policemen on motorcycles on the main pedestrian route in Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir Country Park.
Crimes committed by illegal immigrants, particularly in country parks, are a major police concern. To prevent and detect criminal activities, police have stepped up foot and motorcycle patrols during weekends. The latter is efficient and effective in country parks, and can also enhance mobility with quick police response. The proactive measure was taken to prevent crime in order to provide a safe environment for country park visitors.
We are well aware of Mr Yip's concern about the potential risks posed to hikers. Police officers on motorcycle duty are always reminded to take into consideration the safety of hikers and minimise the inconvenience caused.
