The dice fell well for Hong Kong's Derek Fung during the early stages of the US$200,000 Casino Filipino Open yesterday - but his lucky streak came to an end over the closing holes. Fung, who missed the cut in last week's Benson & Hedges Malaysian Open, picked up four birdies in 15 holes at Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club but finished with a two-under-par 70 due to two bogeys in the last three holes. 'It was pretty windy today but I hit the ball solidly,' said Fung. 'I missed putts of five and 10 foot for the bogeys, which was pretty disappointing.' Hong Kong's Dominique Boulet, playing his first event since getting married to Lucia Tsung in December, did not have much to celebrate after a poor four-over-par 76. Hong Kong-based Kyi Hla Han, Asia's top player last year, and Chinese number one Zhang Lianwei have taken a break from competitive golf this week after competing in Malaysia last weekend. Scott Rowe, of Hong Kong, is competing in the Algarve Portuguese Open on the European Tour. JOHN CREAN
