Singapore Airlines (SIA) plans to launch a third freighter service from Macau International Airport to the United States. Roger Mowbray Stephenson, marketing director at CAM-Macau International Airport, said the weekly service would begin in Singapore and continue via Macau to Anchorage, Chicago, Ohio and New York. 'The airline will use a Boeing 747-400 freighter, which will give Macau airport an additional service to Chicago and New York in the summer,' he said. Malaysia Airline System flies two freighter services a week from Macau using B747-200s. The two services are from Kuala Lumpur to Macau and connect with its network to Amsterdam in Europe, via Dubai. The third service, which connects to Melbourne, will begin on March 26. Mr Stephenson said EVA Air, which operates charter flights between Taiwan and Macau using MD-11s, had two flights carrying 75 tonnes last month. The return of manufacturing companies from the Lunar New Year break should boost demand for EVA's freighter services. On the passenger side, Macau airport had a good month last month, while the cargo division was acceptable, Mr Stephenson said. Due to the closure of the factories during the Lunar New Year holidays, this month would be quiet, he said. FREIGHT
