SCMP Reporter

I refer to your article of February 11 headlined, 'Too many questions and answers' on the Academic Aptitude Test (AAT).

I would like to clarify that the Director of Education, Fanny Law never suggested, 'He ignores the buzz,' as the correct answer to the puzzle over Siu Ming and the alarm clock. I cannot understand how your reporter got this as one of the multiple choices. The answer and the explanation Mrs Law gave at a radio talk show sometime ago were the same as those given by the Secretary for Education and Manpower in his recent article. I have a recording of the show.

The amount of interest in one single question in a past AAT paper is out of all proportion, fuelled by unnecessary confusion arising from hearsay and mis-reporting. We all agree that the AAT has served its purpose and it is time to find a better alternative. Let us now focus discussion on the way ahead.
