Take a chance on Northern General in the opening event on an extremely difficult card at Happy Valley this evening.
Each race looks a positive minefield, packed full of chances and possible pitfalls.
Against that backdrop it could be best to go for an outsider and generally to keep bets to a minimum through the evening and wait for the weekend's Sha Tin fixture.
Northern General had looked next to useful for almost the duration of his career and quickly dropped to the bottom of Class Five.
But just before his last start, trainer Peter Ng Bik-kuen somehow managed to get him to work with a glimmer of hope and lo and behold he then ran a creditable 45-1 fifth to Never Say Never and Speedy Runner over the Valley mile.
He was noted doing his best work at the finish that evening and should be suited by tonight's move up in distance to a mile.
