The characters in The Island Tales includes Haruki (Takao Osawa), a Japanese journalist who goes to live on the island as she recovers from tuberculosois; Sharon (Michelle Reis) and her friend Marianne (Kaori Momoi), who go to the island for lunch; Mei Ling (Shu Qi), an opportunistic young woman; and Han (Julian Cheung), a celebrity who is looking for a quiet time.
Upon their arrival, the Government quarantines the island, which is believed to be the source of a rapidly-spread ing plague.
