Three tourists who say they were wrongly jailed in South Africa over their travel documents asked the country's diplomats yesterday to find out if they were still on an immigration blacklist.
Ma Tang-fung, 35, his wife Ho Yuk-ngor, 34, and Law Yiu-fai, 45, lodged a complaint with South African Consul-General Delina Steenkamp, who promised to conduct a speedy investigation into the case.
The three said they did not have any stamps on their passports to mark their departure from Johannesburg to Hong Kong on February 24 after being released from four days of wrongful detention.
They were arrested on February 20 when immigration officers accused them of possessing forged British National Overseas and Hong Kong SAR passports.
They were later charged with changing the immigration stamp to extend their stay, but South African police dropped charges after failing to find sufficient evidence.
The Travel Industry Council's chairman, Simon Hau Suk-kei, who is helping the three with the case, said: 'They are still on the blacklist. They're still owed a clarification.' Ms Ho said: 'We'll fight to regain our innocence.'
