Pui Shing school celebrates 36th birthday with major facility upgrade
The year 2000 not only marks the 36th birthday of Pui Shing Catholic Secondary School, but also the completion of its extensive renovations.
Hundreds of visitors, principals and nearby primary school pupils were not put off by the cold weather and made their way to the blessing ceremony held in the school hall.
Reverend Dominic Chan, Vicar General of the Hong Kong Catholic Diocese, officiated at the celebrations and delivered a sermon. 'Good foundations require preparations which might take up a lot of time and effort,' he said.
Principal Thomas Chiu gave a brief report on the school's extensive construction works, which include an elevated basketball court, a student activity centre as well as the installation of audio-visual aid equipment in every classroom and new computers.
With the rapid development of information technology in education, the school had been setting up more hi-tech equipment to meet the changes, Mr Chiu said.
Asked what he thought of the school's remodelling, vice-principal Yuen Wing-keung said: 'It's a great honour for me to witness the historical transformation of Pui Shing from a sub- standard school building in Oxford Road, Kowloon Tong into a beautiful and spacious school campus in Tin Shui Wai.'
