Hong Kong's discerning coffee lovers will soon be able to enjoy a shot of Starbucks Coffee, one of the most successfully marketed coffee shop chains in the world. Local fast-food chain Maxim Caterers last week teamed up with the Seattle-based chain to open Starbucks coffee shops in the SAR later this year.
The news hardly created a stir as Starbucks has long eyed the Hong Kong market because of its affluent population and appetite for Western brands and products.
Starbucks Corp, started by Howard Schultz, has 2,600 stores around the world, with most in the United States.
It also has opened coffee shops throughout Asia, including the mainland, Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea and Singapore.
Now, with the strategic partnership with Maxim Caterers - which operates more than 300 outlets in Hong Kong, including Chinese, Western and Japanese restaurants, fast-food outlets and cake shops in central - the road seems to be paved with success for Starbucks.
'We are very excited about the partnership with Maxim, which has the local expertise to make Starbucks a success,' said Petro Man, president for Starbucks Asia Pacific.
