The first major Chinese children's portal, which cashes in on the popularity of Hong Kong cartoon characters McMug and McDull, has been developed to promote parent- and-children communication. The site, WWW.YellowBus. net, targets children aged three to 13. A search engine is cur rently under development and the site also features on-line games, personalisation capabil ity and on-line and shopping. Dr William Lo Wing-yan, chairman and CEO of Netalone. com, said the Web site would be popular among children and young people. 'McMug is 100 per cent locally created . . . it could be the Chinese answer to Snoopy.' McMug and YellowBus, were created by Alice Mak Kar-bik and Brian Tse. YellowBus was first published in 1993. It is a Chinese educational publica tion for children. The Web site will be launched in July. The venture is a joint col laboration between Netalone.com and YellowBus.
