Visit the International Chinese Tea Club, San Uk Tsai Village, Fanling (tel: 2761-9133), for a yum cha experience with a difference. For $8 you can chill out at the 'clubhouse' and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere with a pot of oolong or jasmine tea. The more discerning can rent traditional teaware for $20 and choose from an extensive variety of leaves, all freshly picked from the adjoining tea garden. Dishes made from garden-grown ingredients are served. Members only; six-month memberships cost $380, including tea and food coupons. From Fanling KCR, take minibus 56K and get off at the last stop.
The High Rock Cafe (tel: 2691-1483), an open-air coffee shop atop a knoll in Shatin, has a panoramic view of the new town, and serves Chinese tea and snacks. A part of the High Rock Christian Centre, the cafe issmoke- and alcohol-free. Open from 10am to 10pm.
