Independent district councillor Ronald Fung yesterday announced his bid to run in September's Legco polls on Hong Kong Island. Mr Fung, who is a regular television programme host, is planning to stage a one-man campaign against potential heavyweights like Democrat leader Martin Lee Chu-ming and Citizens Party chairwoman Christine Loh Kung-wai. The Wan Chai councillor defeated Liberal Party vice-chairwoman Selina Chow Liang Shuk-yee in his district poll campaign in November. He plans to secure one of the five seats in the Island constituency by shaking hands with as many voters as possible. Mr Fung said that the $18,000 allowance given to district councillors was not enough to cover expenses. And he admitted that fame and money were two of the reasons he was attempting to move up the political hierarchy.
