A total of 405 students from 396 secondary schools each received a $600 cash award and a certificate at a ceremony officiated by Director of Education Fanny Law Fan Chiu-fun. They were recipients of the Yan Chai Award Scheme for the Most Improved Junior Secondary Students. These students, nominated by their schools, had the best all- round improvement during the last school year. Develop potential The annual event, which is open to all special schools and Government, aided and private secondary schools, aims to encourage junior secondary students to fully develop their potential. The scheme is organised by the Education Department and this year it was sponsored by the Yan Chai Hospital Board. More than 7,000 students have received the award since the scheme was set up for the 1989-90 school year.
