Bank of China Credit Card International has teamed up with Hong Kong-based Web solution provider HKC Intown to launch a co-branded virtual credit card.
The holders of the 'virtual card' will be given a credit-card number, a personal identification number and a certificate of authenticity, instead of a real card.
The information will allow cardholders to process transactions on the Web with a credit limit of $3,800, said Dickson So Sing-shun, managing director of BOC Credit Card.
The low credit limit was adopted to ease on-line consumers' concerns about losing money to hacking.
'Even in the worst scenario, the cardholders would not lose more than $3,800,' Mr So said.
Holders will be entitled to special offers to buy and bid goods on HKC Intown's Web site Intown.com.
