Shenzhen Expressway is considering incorporating fibre-optic cable into its toll roads in the Shenzhen region to develop on-line logistics. The company believes an Internet-based logistics network could contribute substantial earnings, chairman Chen Chao said. Shenzhen Expressway might team up with an associated company Shenzhen International Holdings to develop the logistics system, Mr Chen said. Mr Chen is also vice-chairman of Shenzhen International, which owns a wide range of companies. Mr Chen said Shenzhen Expressway is also looking to expand its toll road interests in the western provinces and coastal areas. General manager Tao Hong said Shenzhen Expressway planned to spend up to $500 million this year to finish construction associated with a $300 million highway in Shenzhen. Shenzhen Expressway planned to finish section A of Yanba Highway this year, Ms Tao said. The company also planned to introduce electronic-payment at its toll roads at a cost of $20 million.
