TWO senior immigration assistants and a chief customs officer will appear in Fanling Court today under new computer crime legislation.
It is the first case to fall under Section 161 of the Crimes (Amendment) Ordinance, part of the Computer Crimes Ordinance gazetted on April 23.
Hung Hak-sing, 31, and Chan So-mei, 35, are charged with conspiracy to accept advantages and conspiracy to obtain access and obtaining access to the Immigration Department's computer system.
Hung and Chan were charged following an investigation into allegations of corruption against Immigration and Customs and Excise Department officers. They allegedly accepted bribes to help an illegal immigration racket.
Two other defendants in the case - chief customs officer Lee Kang-sun, 41, (who also faces the charge of conspiracy to obtain access to the Immigration Department's computer system) and Ng Wai-man, 35, unemployed - will also appear in Fanling court todayon amended and additional charges.
A total of 19 charges have been laid including nine of corruption, two of conspiracy to manufacture forged identity cards and forged passports, and eight concerning access to the Immigration Department's computer records.
